A Shimmer of Angels by Lisa M. Basso

Expected Publication Date: November 20, 2012

Publisher: Month9Books

From Goodreads:

A compelling and spirited debut from Lisa M. Basso in which sixteen-year-old Rayna Evans has spent the last three years locked away in a mental institution for seeing angels. Intent on remaining free, she ignores signs that she may be slipping into the world she has tried so hard to climb out of. But when her hallucinations begin showing up at school, can Rayna keep her job, her sanity and keep students from dying at the hand of angels she can’t admit to seeing?

Psychiatry, fantasy and real life come together in A Shimmer of Angels, as a young girl struggles with identity, secrets and confronting her greatest fears. A Shimmer of Angels is a wonderful read for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider, or perhaps has felt like giving up entirely. It touches on themes of suicide, ostracism and emotional pain. The author, personally exposed to suicide through the death of her beloved brother, will donate a percentage of sales of this novel to a local suicide prevention and outreach program in San Francisco, California.

Why I Can’t Wait: First of all, the cover is absolutely gorgeous! It definitely pulled me in and made me want to know more about what lays inside. I am a sucker for a good angel book and the premise sounds so interesting. A portion of the sales will be donated to a suicide prevention program and I will definitely be going out and picking up a copy of this book when it is released.

What are you waiting on this week?

I love this cover so much too! It definitely fits with being shimmary AND angelic, which is always a plus since not many covers have to do anything with the actually story nowadays haha. And also like you, how could I resist a sweet-sounding angel book with lots of promise? ANSWER: I don’t!! x)

Wow, I actually haven’t heard of this book before! That cover is just totally gorgeous, and that alone would make me want to add it to my TBR. But the part about the author donating part of the sales to a local suicide prevention program? That’s what made me add it to my TBR for sure. The summary sounds interesting too, so it’s a total win-win situation. I can’t wait for this now! Great pick. =)
