A Kid’s Perspective: Judging a Book By Its Cover (1)

July 20, 2012 Article 5, Book Covers, Cover Art, Designs by Shawn, Judging a Book by its Cover, The Fault in Our Stars 13

I recently came across an article on Babble called, Judging a Book by Its Cover: A 6-year-old Guesses What Classic Novels Are All About. I thought it was the cutest thing and instantly thought how fun it would be to see what my 5 year old thought of some of the Young Adult covers I have lying around. To take it a step further, I also had him make some cover art!

“This is about two people who are traveling the world where there are lots of skyscrapers. They have to make sure the towers have nothing bad around it. There needs to be security in the towers.”

Cover Art:

“In the morning there is a falling star, and they are trying to fix it so it is only out at night.”

Cover Art:

He had so much fun doing this so I am planning on making this a regular thing here at Forever 17 Books! Let me (and Shawn) know what you think!

Please please PLEASE make this a regular thing, Sara — this is just so darn cute, it made my day! :’) I’m a part-time babysitter and one of my favourite things is watching the kids be all artistic, and this was just too sweet for words. Shawn, I have a feeling you’re a really creative boy! And I really love what you think the books are about judging from the covers. *squeals and hugs the random kid in a hopefully non-weird way* x)

Absolutely WONDERFUL post, Sara! I can’t wait to see more of Shawn’s epic interpretations! 🙂 <3
