August 3, 2012 Cover Makeover, Giveaway, I Loved You First, Reena Jacobs, Self-Pub 25

Today I have the privilege to share with you a new cover reveal for I Loved You First by Reena Jacobs! This week marks the one year anniversary of this novel’s debut and what better way to celebrate than with an awesome new cover, blurb, and a giveaway, courtesy of the author, right?

So without further ado…

Alexandria (Alex) Carmichael guards two secrets close to her heart. One―she’s in love with her best friend, Seth. Two―he’s gay.

As a freshman in college, Alex looks forward to fun times with her best friend. When Seth decides cycling through girlfriends is the way to fit in with the straight crowd, Alex must make a choice: watch Seth give his affection to another while her heart breaks or come clean with her feelings and risk losing his friendship forever.
I LOVED YOU FIRST is a new adult love story told through the eyes of Alex, an African-American/Caucasian student, who takes a journey of self-discovery while watching her best friend come to terms with his sexuality.

*I Loved You First is on sale now until August 5th for only $0.99! If purchasing from Smashwords, use the following Coupon Code: XY82H

About the Author:

Reena Jacobs is just a writer who loves to see her words in print. As an avid reader, she’s known to hoard books and begs her husband regularly for “just one more purchase.” Her home life is filled with days chasing her preschooler and nights harassing her husband. Between it all, she squeezes in time for writing and growling at the dog.

What do you all think? I personally love the new cover! This is Alexandria’s story and the girl on the cover looks contemplative and it really fits well with the storyline.

The one thing that appeals to me the most about the new YA genre is that, for us, I mean today’s generation, it is very relatable and easy to believe. It’s easy to imagine this stuff, especially when it comes to Contemporaries, as it is what happens around us! 🙂

Teenagers like me surely love the build up of intense romance and love triangles as well as hot guys *evil grin…. But of course, the story line itself and the characters, i find them very alive as if i’m part of it. ;)-

  3. It's A Hardcover Life

What I’ve loved about Young Adult since I was a teenager is that anything can happen. It’s such a free and exciting part of life and the characters can change so much throughout a book or series. Everything is dramatic and intense.

In college I always wanted to find books for people my age but always had a problem finding them.

I LOVE New Adult and Young Adult because the characters are so real, likable but flawed, and the stories are all so original. But mostly I love YA/New Adult because anything is possible – the main characters can be who they want to be, they find the person they really love, they fight for what’s right. It’s so hopeful:) No one and nothing is jaded.

I love NA and YA because the characters go through things that most people experience in their lives. Anything can happen.

I’m one of the *clears throat* older ones. haha What I love about the YA/NA genre is it brings me back to my youthful days. I read the YA books and think… I remember that! With NA, I’m stuck in a world of fun. No parents and plenty of trouble to be had. It’s like grown-ups sent us out in the world with just enough rope to hang ourselves.

    I’m totally cheesing right now!

The new adult and young adult genre appeal to me because its a genre that I grew up with and I can relate to the characters. I’m turning 18 soon, so I’m stuck in that awkward place loving YA books and not loving adult books, so the new adult genre is a happy medium too!

  8. Badass Bookie

For me, the appeal is in the story lines. In YA, it’s for the most part – happy endings. Whether it be a small happy or a big happy, YA is the very definition of fiction.

I also like all the cute boiz in YA fiction and the cliched love stories. YA fiction is just fun to read!

I haven’t heard of the new adult genre but young adult has always and will always be a guiding force because it provides a lot of insight to the things that I struggled with going through high school.

A New Adult/Young Adult author who is a must read. Oh my list is long but I will go with an author that got me through Jr. High all the way till my first two years of college. Meg Cabot. It was her series the Princess Diaries that renewed my interest in reading during my jr. high years. So much was going on with my personal life then and books really became my escape from my problems. I grew with Princess Mia her adventures and trials were hilarious at times but really relate-able at others. I was fortunate to go to an Author signing and meet Ms. Cabot, not long after I graduated High School and right before the series ended and thank her personally for her writing.

Young Adult book remind me when I was a teen. The books are full of romance, intense emotions, a little rebellion and action!

One thing that appeals me about YA Genre is that I feel like a teen. That some of this books can not only read by teens but also ages from 11 or 10 yrs.old. And in this genre I feel that authors could mix up things w/o getting too disturbing for some readers. 🙂

  13. Rebecca

I’ve yet to read a New Adult book but I’ve only heard great things about it! Personally, I’ve always had a thing for older YA, so I’m looking forward to checking it out. I think it’s amazing that New Adult has popped up on the book market because it’s perfect for those who love something in between YA and Adult.

  14. Zemira Djedović

I love reading New Adult books because I can relate more to them since I’m 23 years old. Things like college, parties and boys are more my thing than reading about some high school girl with her unimportant drama.

  15. ATU

I love YA. I really do. But, sometimes I find myself identifying more with the parents in the book than the main character. I also find myself saying “Just tell your parents what’s going on! They can help!” That might be because I’m almost 40. Anyway, the New Adult genre gives me the same feel of YA (whatever it is that makes me love it so much) while also giving me slightly older characters.

  16. janhvi

There are a lot of things about the new adult genre which appeal to me.I’m 19 so I like reading about someone my age instead of early teenagers. Also these books seem more realistic to me and they don’t hold back on what actually happens like cussing, sex etc.

  17. DeeDee Griffin

Not exactly sure since I’m far from being a young adult. Maybe it’s the innocence of the characters. Or I can imagine what’s it’s like to be young again.

  18. Reena Jacobs

I love the answers. I so glad my daughters introduced me into the YA genre. I wish I’d been aware of the books when I was their age.
