A Kid’s Perspective: Judging a Book By Its Cover (11)

November 30, 2012 Book Covers, Cover Art, Judging a Book by its Cover, Legend, Marie Lu, Prodigy 21

Inspired by an article on Babble called, Judging a Book by Its Cover: A 6-year-old Guesses What Classic Novels Are All About, I have asked my 6 year old what his thoughts are on a few Young Adult covers lying around the house. To take it a step further, I also had him make some cover art!

Today is the Legend Edition!

“I think legend is about a flag that has a 5-pointed star at the top with 3 wings on the sides, and a circle in the middle that has a whole bunch of lines. The flag is for a pledge you say in a state called Legend. The school they say it in is called Prodigy.”

Cover Art:

“I think it’s about a sign of the school Prodigy that has a black bird with blue around it.”

Cover Art:

These are definitely some of my favorite cover art he has done so far!

**I have a question for all of you that I need your opinion on. A couple of blogs have started to also have some fun with their kids and book covers or are doing a hybrid of the idea. Would you guys like me to add a linky tool on these posts so you can see what other bloggers are doing as well? Just an idea, let me know!

I hope you enjoyed Shawn’s thoughts and artwork this week. Let me (and Shawn) know what you think! :)

This is such a cute post! I love his cover art for Prodigy. That’s an pretty great rendition :) I can’t vouch for adding a linky because I don’t have kids, but I think this is an awesome feature!

Thank you! The linky question can also be if readers would want to see what the other bloggers are doing and would click on the links. So you don’t have to be doing it yourself to use. Thanks so much for stopping by!

That’s so cute that your kid drew those! Adorable. I actually haven’t seen that cover for Legend before. I think I’ve only seen the old one, but it fits well with the sequel :)

Thank you! I thought the new cover was going to be for the paperbacks for now but I won a giveaway recently and the publisher sent the new cover in hardback. It definitely looks great next to Prodigy. :)

I think turning this into a meme might be fun. I keep thinking it would be fun to do with my kids but I haven’t done it yet. I’m just so busy!

But that was cute! I just love what comes out of kids mouths and how they interpret things.

I would totally link up! I love these posts and you already know you totally inspired me to do this with my daughter. You should totally make this a meme. Dude, I just said totally 3x. I should go to bed. :)

I loved Legend and can’t wait to read Prodigy. And I love your son’s interpretation. It’s been awhile, but June did go to some military-type school, right? 😛

You already know how I feel about this. <3 A few more months and my little one might decide to stop eating crayons and start drawing (thank God they’re non-toxic), but until then I think I’m a pretty convincing kindergarden drawer. 😉
