Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.

Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.

Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.

In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we’ll go to for the ones we love.

**If you have not read the first book, Everneath, there may be spoilers!

Fact: I did not love the first book. *gasp* Wait, hear me out! I did like it, but for some reason didn’t love it as much as I hoped. Looking back on what my issues were, I think I just didn’t connect with the characters through most of the book, well until the end, which was amazing! To me, I felt like Everneath was setting up for a fantastic sequel and that is exactly what I found with Everbound!

After Jack takes Nikki’s place and is sent to the Feed in the tunnels of the Everneath, she is determined to find a way to return him to the Surface before it is too late. Of course to do so, she needs the help of the Everliving Cole, a ferryman to the Underworld in a sense. Now, if you find yourself forgetting some of the details and mythology surrounding this story, fear not! The author does an excellent job of recapping in the first few chapters. I found myself immediately recalling the details and was so pleasantly surprised that everything came right back to me.

The situation between Nikki and Jack is in the reverse this time. Her undying love for Jack has made her an anchor on the Surface which keeps him alive in the Feeds but for how long? At night he visits her in her dreams but time is running out. Forcing Cole to help, they travel to the Everneath in search for Jack. And let me tell you, this world is dark, twisted but so very cool and interesting. Also, surprisingly easy to keep up with. Instead of the mopey girl we see in the first book, Nikki rises to the occasion with her determination and strength. I found that connection I was missing from the first book! I’m also pretty confident that strength will continue to grow in the last installment, making her one fierce character!

I was pretty confident in my Team Jack status heading in, but the author sure did try to sway me to the bad boy Cole! Guys, she is playing with my ALL my emotions! We learn a lot more about him and his life this time around. I have serious conflicting emotions when it comes to him. I feel so much love yet so much hate for him, simultaneously. I WISH I could touch upon this some more and give you all the reasons why this is so, but it would be impossible for me right now without being super spoilery. LOL The author used a very clever way to keep Jack incorporated in the story, even though he was missing. Not only do we see snippets of him in Nikki’s dreams, but it turns out, recalling memories created a tether between them to help guide her through the maze of the Everneath. All the sighs and swoons for those too! We get to see how their friendship became more and it was the sweetest, most adorable thing! I usually prefer the bad boy, but Jack is my man in this series!

What stands out the most to me, is how brilliant the author gives the reader all of the pieces of the story and details that all intertwine together. Never once did it feel too much like telling or leave me feeling confused. Everything fell into place wonderfully and I commend the author for how seamlessly the story flowed. I am so very happy this sequel turned this series around for me! I am now a hardcore fan and cannot wait for the next book! A definite must-read for fans of mythology and paranormal reads.

About Brodi Ashton

Because of two parents who were Greek myth geeks, I grew up thinking the latest fashion trends were inspired by Aphrodite, and a good conversational opener was, “So, which mythological character do you most resemble?” Despite these social shortcomings, I found a great husband who’s always my first reader. We live in Utah with our two young boys, who still have no idea why I’m at the computer all the time.

I received a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Utah and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics.

Awesome review. Yeah, I have the same love/hate relationship with Cole. I was wondering if you’d feel the same, having not read Neverfall going into this, but it appears that novella changes nothing. Ashton still convinces you he might be a decent guy after all. Ha, or does she? And I just loved how she made sure we didn’t forget about ole Jack. I’m totally conflicted now!

I’m glad to hear that this one was so good. I’m with you on Team Jack and I’m glad he still has a presence in this book even though he’s not actually there. And I look forward to finding out more about Cole. Great review!

I liked Everneath, I just didn’t love it like other people did. Some parts confused me too much. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read this book but after reading the awesome reviews I definitely want it. I always had a soft spot of Cole and I have a feeling it will get bigger in this book.

I feel bad that I didn’t like Everneath. Maybe I didn’t give it enough of a chance.. I did like Cole, but didn’t like the heroine. Your five stars definitely makes me rethink my opinion, I’ll have to give the book a second chance. Great review! Can’t wait to see your review of Prodigy!

Yes, that is where I had some issues with the first book, with Nikki. I liked her SOOOOO much more this time around. Almost done with Prodigy so hopefully the review will be up this week!

I was a little unsatisfied with Everneath as well when I read it last year. I didn’t like how it tried to weave very different Greek and Egyptian mythologies together, which to me, left gaps in the story telling. But I still can’t wait to read the second novel! I’m Team Jack for now, but we’ll see if Cole has the power to charm me or not. Lol. 🙂
