A Kid’s Perspective: Judging a Book By Its Cover (20)

February 1, 2013 Book Covers, Cover Art, Designs by Shawn, Judging a Book by its Cover, Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone 11

Inspired by an article on Babble called, Judging a Book by Its Cover: A 6-year-old Guesses What Classic Novels Are All About, I have asked my 6 year old what his thoughts are on a few Young Adult covers lying around the house. To take it a step further, I also had him make some cover art!

“I think Shadow and Bone is about curly silver trees that have a lot of branches. And they are all around 5 castles. Three black castles and two red castles. The one in the middle is taller because someone lives in that one.”

Cover Art:

He had a lot of fun drawing this one! Especially the cool letters. I hope you enjoyed Shawn’s thoughts and artwork this week! Since a couple other blogs have expressed interest in doing something similar, I have decided to add a linky tool, so that you can also check out what they are doing as well! I hope you will give them a look see!

Don’t forget to let me (and Shawn) know what you think! 🙂

I love Shawn’s imagination. If I had to live in one of the “castles” I would want the best view myself. Gotta see those silvery trees better. 🙂

“The one in the middle is taller because someone lives in that one.” Love it. Katie focused on the castle as a home, too, when she did this one a few weeks back. I love what Shawn did with the letters, too. Great job, kiddo!
