Top Ten Tuesday (10): Books I HAD To Buy…But Are Still Sitting On My Shelf Unread

March 19, 2013 Books Unread on My Shelf, Top Ten Tuesday 72

**Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and Bookish.**

So… this post had the potential to be quite long. I mean, I have way more than 10 books on my shelf that I bought because I wanted them so bad, and then just never got the chance to read. It’s sad, but true. It’s so hard when 20+ books are released each month but I’m unable to read fast enough to even meet half of them. Books get put on the back burner, yet I buy them because I KNOW I want to read them someday. I think this can be quite common in the book world, especially with bloggers. Here is a small sampling of mine.

I bought this one awhile ago, but after reading and LOVING their other collab, Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares, this has been bumped up on my list. I’ve penciled it into my reading schedule for May, since David Levithan will be at the Rochester Teen Book Festival.

Dude, it’s signed and personalized even. And there is sits… *sigh* It has such an awesome premise.

This seems to have a lot of really cool elements all together in one book, and perhaps may leave me needing a box of tissues? When the reviews started to come in, I immediately put it in my cart.

Uhhhh, it may or may not be the cover that first brought this one to my attention and made me rush out and buy it. But the premise sounds great too! πŸ˜‰

I love memory loss storylines right now. This one seemed to have a great sense of action and suspense to it so I bought it straight away. It’s on my reading list for next month though. I am hoping I can keep to that.

I’m so embarrassed that this is still sitting on my TBR shelf. A most anticipated read, I pre-ordered a signed copy from her release party and had it shipped to me. Right about that time I found myself swamped with review books and had to set it aside.

The reviews have kind of been all over the place, but I had to buy a copy and see for myself. Maybe someday…

I’ve been wanting to read this for quite awhile. I love road trips. It sounds like a summertime read so maybe I’ll get to it then?

I think this may be one of the first parallel worlds novels that made my TBR. Since then many have joined the list, but I still haven’t had the chance to read this one.

I’ve heard many good things, I think this one just came out at a time when I needed a break from the Dystopian/Sci-fi genre.

I actually ordered a signed copy from the Dark Days tour. It really sounds awesome and like something I would greatly enjoy. I want to find time for this one soon.

I’m a little picky about fantasy because I often find myself having trouble staying on top of the world building in the beginning, but after a lot of rave reviews when it was released, I bought a copy.

Okay, I realize I am already at 12 on a Top TEN list, but I wanted to add just a few more, in the sequels department.

Books from a Series

Okay, so Hush, Hush first caught my eye back when I wasn’t reading a lot of books. I had no idea where to find recommendations or anything. I was picking up Catching Fire at the time and saw the cover. I loved the angel concept so then I immediately pre-ordered Crescendo (Hush, Hush #2) and read that right away when it arrived. Fast forward a year from then… certain circumstances kept me from reading SilenceΒ at the time of release. I eventually won a signed copy but by that point I decided to wait forΒ Finale, with the intentions of reading then both together. Yeah… it never happened. I want it to!

I loved the first book! I have no idea how I could let this one slip me by but unfortunately, it has. πŸ™

Noah! Love him so much! Honestly, this one making this list makes me very sad. It was another that was just released at the wrong time for me, when I found myself swamped with review books.

Welp, that’s a small fraction of what lies on my shelf unread. And I didn’t even touch what was on my Nook. O_O It makes me really sad. The summer seems to be slower on releases so I’m really hoping I can read a few of these then.

Any books on your shelf you’ve been meaning to read for a long time? Links if you got ’em!

I need an extra month or two to catch up, too, Sara! You’ve got a great list here. We’re opposites with Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist and Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares. I read (and loved) Nick & Norah so I need to read D&L. Maybe we can read together πŸ™‚

I need to read almost everything else on your list too LOL

oh no not another with THe Girl of Fire and THorns really I am in LOVE with that series. It may be one of my all time favorites. I hope you get to it soon its so so great

Oh I’m glad to hear you liked those too. I really need to make a point to get to them!

Sara I was so close to finally getting to read Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour but didn’t get the time and had to return it to the library πŸ™ Maybe next time…yet again!

May I ask how you got the threaded comments? I can’t seem to find the settings to change it.

    My Top Ten

    Have a great week!

Amy & Rogers’s Epic Detour is a GREAT summertime read! One of my favorites actually. Summer is usually when I catch up on all of my neglected books.

  5. Aylee

I feel your pain completely! There are always way too many books coming out from month to month and they’re hyped and buzzed about to death. I always want to run out and buy them right away! But I can’t keep up, unfortunately. Case in point, out of yours, I only have The Evolution of Mara Dyer unread on my shelf, but I would LOVE to own the rest of them to (hopefully) read one day. Sigh, I guess there are worse problems to have though!

  6. Kat

I know the problem… especially when it comes to sequels… you have to buy the next book, but reading it *phew* πŸ˜‰

But you really should read ‘The Lost Girl’. It’s pretty amazing and unique.

  7. Susan

I haven’t even heard of a lot of these, but I have plenty I-had-to-buy-it books on my own shelves. The problem for me is definitely one of too many books, too little time!

Oh my goodness, I have been reading Finale so slowly it’s not even funny! It should basically be on my list, because it’s been since November since I started reading it and I’m only halfway through. I’ve been DYING to read Time Between Us! It looks amazing! My advice? Read The Evolution of Mara Dyer as soon as you can! It was INCREDIBLE! I read it in a day. It’s creepy and beautiful and heart breaking and ughhh I couldn’t stop thinking about it for a week afterwards. Great list Sara!

Time Between Us is a nice story and Girl of Nightmares is also interesting πŸ™‚ I also want to read I Hunt Killers but haven’t yet! πŸ™‚ Great list. You’ve got some interesting books πŸ™‚

It took me a while to read The Girl of Nightmares but I am glad I finally did, I really enjoyed it! I still have The Girl of Fire and Thorns on my kindle. My co-blogger just read it and was disappointed so I am now even less motivated to read it!

I really need to read Girl of Fire and Thorns. I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about that one but I just haven’t gotten around to it. I haven’t bought the book, but we have it at the library where I work. Hopefully sometime soon I will get to it.

  12. Kat C @ Books and Sensibility

Wow, this is so funny, I got Nick and Norah after listening to the audiobook of Dash and Lily too and still haven’t read it. Amy and Roger is kind of a summer-y book, so I think it’d be perfect if you read it then.

  13. Lauren

These are all amazing books! Isn’t it funny how we can anticipate a book, look forward to its release, buy it, then get so sidetracked it sits on the shelf for months? This happens to me all the time. I also have Time Between Us and The Lost Girl just staring at me from my nightstand. Too many books, not enough hours in the day! πŸ™‚

  14. Joyous Reads

Oh damn. I’d have an entire bookshelf for a list like this. Insignia was a snoozer. I couldn’t get through it. And B Fitzpatrick’s books were just…yeah. But girl, you need to read Anna, stat!

  15. Jessica Leigh

You’ve got QUITE a few on my TBR list!! (Lost Girl, False Memory, Dark Light, Time Between Us, Insignia…) LOL! I just read Girl of Fire and Thorns a couple nights ago and it was wonderful. If you like historical fantasy-fiction, it’s sooo good!

Ok, so I have decided that you need to stop and read The Evolution of Mara Dyer right now! it is soooo good. I also want to read Imaginary girls I have heard great things for Nova Ren Suma.

I just recently finished Silence and Finale after having Silence forever! I have read The Forsaken and Time Between Us. I liked Time Between Us and The Forsaken was okay. I have had Girl of Fire and Thorns forever and still need to read it too! Every time I look at someone’s list I find another book I had to buy and haven’t read!!

  18. Bailey

It’s SO hard to get to newly released books when so many come out a month. You are so right. I spy some really fantastic ones in there! You must read The Girl of Fire and Thorns as soon as you can. It’s such a phenomenal and unique YA high fantasy series. πŸ™‚

  19. Genevieve Hayes

I’m reading “I Hunt Killers” at the moment and it is well worth reading. It’s sort of like “Dexter” for teens (yes, I know how wrong that sounds).

The book that’s been on my shelf for years that I keep meaning to read but never do is “Special Topics in Calamity Physics”. It sounds good, but I’m not sure and it’s very long. I’m more likely to take a chance on a short book than a long one.

  20. Stephanie

Push up The Time Between Us to the top. It’s one of the very best YA books and so cleverly written. I flounced Finale. I just couldn’t torture myself anymore.

  21. starryeyedjen

I could never shorten a list like this down to ten, either. But I’m trying to catch up. Audio is helping, for sure. But I have to tell you, I kind of want to shake you a bit…you absolutely NEED to move The Girl of Fire and Thorns and The Evolution of Mara Dyer up to the top of your TBR pile. Both were favorites. I loved Dash & Lily, too…guess I need to pick up Nick & Nora. Loved the movie. πŸ™‚ The Dark Light was good, too, and probably not at all what you’re expecting, especially based on the cover and summary. ;0)

  22. Sierra

A signed copy??? So jealous…Insignia was a favorite of mine from last year for me. False Memory was great and there are bunches you should read up there! (no offense but you DO)

it was amazing. I suggest starting that one like…NOW! Haha, but overall really good ones on this list I enjoyed, I remember I absolutely LOVED silence, considered it my favoruite out of all of them but Finale was such a let down! πŸ™

I want to steal a book from your list.. The Epic road trip one. I am leaving in June for a 2 month long road trip across the USA. This book sis perfect.

Read Infinite playlist then watch the movie both are very well written and acted.

  25. Dragana Mitrovic

As you said, so many great books coming out… It’s not possible to read them all (although we want to)… I’ve got some of these on my Kindle waiting for a chance too.
Thanks for stopping by my TTT. πŸ™‚

  26. Erika

I haven’t read any of these but they all look good! So many books, so little time. I actually wrote this post last year for tty and I still haven’t read half of them. It’s really hard to get through them all πŸ™
