‘Waiting On’ Wednesday (50): More Than This by Patrick Ness

April 17, 2013 Candlewick Press, More Than This, Patrick Ness, Waiting on Wednesday 60

**Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.**

Expected Publication Date: September 10th 2013

Publisher: Candlewick

From Goodreads:

A boy named Seth drowns, desperate and alone in his final moments, losing his life as the pounding sea claims him. But then he wakes. He is naked, thirsty, starving. But alive. How is that possible? He remembers dying, his bones breaking, his skull dashed upon the rocks. So how is he here? And where is this place? It looks like the suburban English town where he lived as a child, before an unthinkable tragedy happened and his family moved to America. But the neighborhood around his old house is overgrown, covered in dust, and completely abandoned. What’s going on? And why is it that whenever he closes his eyes, he falls prey to vivid, agonizing memories that seem more real than the world around him? Seth begins a search for answers, hoping that he might not be alone, that this might not be the hell he fears it to be, that there might be more than just this. . . .

Why I Can’t Wait: Guys, it’s freakin’ Patrick Ness! Need I say more? Okay, just in case I do… Last summer I read the Chaos Walking trilogy and oh my god they were brilliant! They were out there, I’ll give you that, but so unique. I’ll tell ya, some really strong emotions were going through me with those books, but I love when an author can make you *feel* like that. When I saw he had a new book coming out this year, there was no question in my mind that I needed to add it to my TBR. And this concept sounds AMAZING! I don’t even care that the cover is a little on the boring side! (**EDIT: Apparently there is more to the cover that meets the eye! “The door is actually a hole in the hardboard of the hardcover, with the title printed on the yellow endpapers inside.” -via Patrick Ness himself in the comments below!) GIMME GIMME!

Oh man now I feel excited and ashamed that I have never read a Patrick Ness novel. I have been meaning to though, thanks for the reminder.

I’ve heard some amazing things about Patric Ness but still haven’t read any of his books. I hope you’ll enjoy this one 🙂 Sounds really interesting 🙂

I still haven’t read the Chaos Walking books yet, but I think I own the first one. I actually almost DL’d the audio recently but changed my mind. Guess that was a bad call. This new book sounds great…and I kinda love that cover. Thanks for sharing, Sara!

I just finished my first Patrick Ness book a few weeks ago. (A Monster Calls — have you read it?) I loved it even though it was a tear-jerker. My tbr pile is turning into a tbr mountain…

Thank you for this! The cover is more than you think. The door is actually a hole in the hardboard of the hardcover, with the title printed on the yellow endpapers inside. Should be cool.

This is an awesome pick Sara! I have yet to read The Chaos Walking Trilogy, but have heard brilliant things! The concept to this story sounds fascinating! And thanks for the tidbit on the cover! 🙂

I heard of him last year when another blog reviewed the Chaos Walking trilogy and called it better than The Hunger Games. I think it was Sash and Em? But it made me intrigued so I read and loved them!

I knew nothing about this book, and it looks so good. I have to admit, though, that I really hated the Chaos Walking series (but LOVED A Monster Calls). Thanks for sharing!

    Check out my WoW!

Glad you loved Chaos Walking…I’m still unable to pick them up. :/ This one sounds interesting but then again, Chaos Walking was too.

  9. Sunny Duvall

I’ve never read this author, but the cover looks great and the synopsis sounds SO interesting! Hope you get it 🙂 …but you must read Shadow and Bone first!
