A Kid’s Perspective: Judging a Book By Its Cover (33)

May 4, 2013 Becca Fitzpatrick, Book Covers, Cover Art, Crescendo, Designs by Shawn, Hush Hush, Judging a Book by its Cover 14

Inspired by an article on Babble called, Judging a Book by Its Cover: A 6-year-old Guesses What Classic Novels Are All About, I have asked my 6 year old what his thoughts are on a few Young Adult covers lying around the house. To take it a step further, I also had him make some cover art!

A couple months ago, Shawn talked about and did cover art for Hush, Hush, and this week he told me he would like to do the rest of the books as well. So this week we have:

“I think Crescendo is about a red feather that fell out of the sky with the rain and lightning and a girl picked it up. And she was lost so she was was going to find her way home with the red feather. When she was halfway there she dropped the red feather and then she couldn’t find her way home that good because the feather was the magic.”

Cover Art:

I loved how he described this one. Can’t wait to see what he does with the rest of the covers! I hope you enjoyed Shawn’s thoughts and artwork this week! Since a couple other blogs have expressed interest in doing something similar, I have decided to add a linky tool, so that you can also check out what they are doing as well! I hope you will give them a look see!

Don’t forget to let us know what you think! πŸ™‚

I love how he concentrated on that red feather and made it magical. πŸ™‚ And that Nora was dumb and dropped it and couldn’t find her way home. πŸ˜› I still need to read the last book in this series, but I kind of hate Nora. πŸ™

I love the detail that Shawn goes into with his perspective, I think I need a story now about Nora and her red feather now! Another brilliant post Sara and Shawn! πŸ™‚

I love the description of this one that he gave. It’s so detailed. And, really, I hadn’t been that aware of the red feather until he mentioned it. He’s always opening my eyes to these covers! So awesome πŸ™‚

Love this one! Such a cute description. I love how the feather is magic and leading the way home. That could be a fairy tale on its own. Shawn might be a future author himself! πŸ™‚
