A Kid’s Perspective: Judging a Book By Its Cover (35)

May 17, 2013 Book Covers, Cover Art, Designs by Shawn, Insignia, Judging a Book by its Cover, S.J. Kincaid 25

Inspired by an article on Babble called, Judging a Book by Its Cover: A 6-year-old Guesses What Classic Novels Are All About, I have asked my 6 year old what his thoughts are on a few Young Adult covers lying around the house. To take it a step further, I also had him make some cover art!

“I think Insignia is about a bird that is flying through a maze and there’s a ton of booby traps. She got caught in a booby trap so another bird came to rescue it.”

Cover Art:

That’s the bird on the bottom of his drawing, jsyk. lol I love his interpretation of this one! πŸ™‚

I hope you enjoyed Shawn’s thoughts and artwork this week! Since a couple other blogs have expressed interest in doing something similar, I have decided to add a linky tool, so that you can also check out what they are doing as well! I hope you will give them a look see!

Don’t forget to let us know what you think! πŸ™‚

We have this saying, β€œIf you judge a book by its cover, you might miss out on an amazing story”. You may not understand the whole story behind it if you just look by the cover. I could say about this book – it’s like a Harry Potter but in a humorous one. I hope to see this in top Amazon books someday.

LOL Another great interpretation! I think your kid will be a good lit student one day πŸ™‚ Anyhow I haven’t heard of this one but I like Shawn’s idea πŸ™‚

I absolutely adore Shawn’s version of Insignia Sara, I actually think that I prefer his interpretation more! My sister has told me she is far too busy with the Disney channel of course and she takes forever to decide which book she wants to do that she’ll be doing some more in June! Kids hey, they have busier lives than us! πŸ™‚

A maze full of booby traps…love it! Actually, I always love Shawn’s interpretations. That’s why I love this meme…getting to see what their little imaginations come up with. πŸ™‚

Love the book choice this week! His summary is so cute this week with the bird flying through booby traps πŸ˜€

Oh, that cover is so hard to draw but I absolutely loved how he described it. I might be interested in reading that version πŸ™‚

That cover is really hard to interpret and draw! I love that he saw booby traps for the bird, and that she has a friend to bail her out of the trap. Very imaginative! As always, this adorable meme has made Friday a little brighter. πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing!

Shawn has my respect. I cannot draw for the life of me. He is so great at it! Woot! I love seeing his adorable depictions. I thinks it’s a totally awesome idea! Once again, kudos to the man Shawn! πŸ˜€
