A Kid’s Perspective: Judging a Book By Its Cover (36)

May 24, 2013 Book Covers, Cinder, Cover Art, Designs by Shawn, Judging a Book by its Cover, Marissa Meyer 21

Inspired by an article on Babble called, Judging a Book by Its Cover: A 6-year-old Guesses What Classic Novels Are All About, I have asked my 6 year old what his thoughts are on a few Young Adult covers lying around the house. To take it a step further, I also had him make some cover art!

Cinder is about somebody who is walking with a red shoe and they have silver bones in their body because they had to put a cast on it before when it was hurting at the hospital.”

Cover Art:

I was so wondering where he would go with this one, if he would connect the shoe and Cinder with Cinderella, but he was definitely more focused on the metal inside her leg, which is also awesome. I hope you enjoyed Shawn’s thoughts and artwork this week! Since a couple other blogs have expressed interest in doing something similar, I have decided to add a linky tool, so that you can also check out what they are doing as well! I hope you will give them a look see!

Don’t forget to let us know what you think! ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh I love this! It’s a good choice since it’s a cover that symbolizes something but doesn’t reveal much so he kinda had to get creative. I might do this with my kiddo tomorrow just for fun (not on the blog since I’m too busy to post it). Thanks for sharing with us!

Well I do know what’s this book about but Shawn’s addition is not bad. Still he is better painter than I’ll ever be. *sigh* Great post ๐Ÿ™‚

Ha, I love that he focused on the metallic bones. Katie also zeroed in on the painfulness of the shoes when she recreated Cinder a few weeks ago. ๐Ÿ™‚ No post from us today because of a tour stop, but we’ve already got one ready to go for next week’s edition. ๐Ÿ™‚

Awwww Shawn’s interpretation this week is absolutely adorable Sara! And I love how he made the bone such a prominent feature in his drawing too! Love it ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh my goodness, this is adorable as ever! I think the silver bones are definitely what my eye is drawn to, so I’m not surprised he focused on that and made his story about that. Another amazing drawing too! Thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ™‚
