Armchair BEA 2013 – Introductions First!

‘Tis the time of year for BEA! For those of you who don’t know what BEA is, it is a convention in the NYC this week called Book Expo America. Publishers and authors are in attendance and it is a great place for librarians, bloggers and whoever else who attends to get signed books and find out about upcoming releases. I’m sure there is so much more as well, but since I have never been, I am going on just what I’ve heard.

Once again, I will be participating inΒ Armchair BEA, for the 2nd year in a row! Armchair BEA gives those of us who are not able to attend in NYC this week a chance to meet new bloggers and discuss books and other blogging things from the comforts of our homes.

Today is day one, which is all about introductions! I’m going to take some of my answers from last year and expand on them and pick a few new questions too.

1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?

Hi! *waves* My name is Sara and I’ve been blogging for over a year now, since March 2012. It’s hard to believe it has been so long but time flies and all that. Besides reading and blogging, I am a mom to two boys, ages 6 and 3. I also watch two other children in my house full time, so life can be quite busy. Reading is a great way for me to wind down and escape from reality. And since I work at home with no other adults (though my mom is here just about everyday to help), blogging is a great way for me to get some much needed adult interaction.Β

2. Where in the world are you blogging from? Tell a random fact or something special about your current location. Feel free to share pictures.

While I do live in New York, I’m on the opposite side of the state in Rochester. Unfortunately, we really don’t get much out here in the means of signings except for the Rochester Teen Book Festival which we just had a week ago. Just over 30 authors were in attendance this year! It was a blast and you can check out the first part of my recap from the eventΒ HERE!

3. What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2013?

I’m currently reading The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau and Heartbeat by Elizabeth Scott. I don’t usually read two books at a time but alas, it is so right now. As for best books I’ve read so far this year? Such a tough question. I’ll name a few:

4. What literary location would you most like to visit? Why?

HOGWARTS! I am not sure an explanation is even necessary! LOL I am a huge Harry Potter fan. HUGE! I used to reread the books over and over and will watch the movies whenever they are on tv. The magical world J.K. Rowling created was spectacular and I am bummed I never received my Hogwarts letter. πŸ˜‰

5. What is your favorite part about the book blogging community?

The people! I truly love having a place to talk books with others who enjoy reading as much as I do. And I can always find a great rec or perhaps just someone to flail or rant about a book with. That will always be my favorite part of blogging. πŸ™‚

That’s it for Introductions! Be sure to check back everyday for more Armchair BEA fun! While you’re here, have a look around and check out the giveaways going on. Links are at the top of the sidebar! Thanks for stopping by and if you have a link you’d like me to check out, be sure to leave it in the comments!

I really envy all the people who can attend BEA! Sigh. Anyhow it was great to meet you a little better! *high fives* for Dare You To and The Sea of Tranquility. Great books! πŸ™‚

Time really flies when you are blogging πŸ™‚ Kudos to you for having time for everything!

I really need to read Pivot Point, and I thought The Program was so different to a lot of other recent dystopians/

  3. Kristin

This is my second time participating in ArmchairBEA as well. I love all the interactions that take place during this week…and finding new blogs!

My husband and I started rewatching the Harry Potter movies this weekend – we watched 1-4…so much fun seeing them again! I’ve been meaning to reread all the books again, and maybe after we finish watching all the movies, I might start – but with the audio versions. I hear Jim Dale is an excellent narrator for the books.

I still need to read Eleanor and Park, I also have a copy of Fangirl which is also by Rainbow Rowell and I definitely excited about reading it also, this is my second year participating in Armchair BEA and I had so much fun, hope you enjoy!

Hogwarts!! YES! No explanation necessary there. πŸ™‚ It’s great that you got to have such a fun experience at the Rochester Book Festival! I love festivals because so many more authors that wouldn’t otherwise tour in cities or towns come out to the same place. It’s like a book signing wonderland. And your best of list for this year is awesome! I agree with almost all of those (some I haven’t read yet, but will remedy shortly!) Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚

Aw, so cute–I like learning a little more about you in this post, Sara! I had no idea you also watched two other little ones in addition to your own.

I’m actually visiting upstate New York this summer for a wedding, so I may hit you up for some fun places to visit. πŸ™‚

Ooooo!!! We have such similar taste in books! I’m glad Pivot Point is in there with your faves because I’ve been nervous about that one. I’m sold now.! πŸ™‚

It’s my first year doing Armchair BEA. And I’m reading The Sea of Tranquility right now. The cover to Extinguish is awesome!

I love all these introductory posts from everyone. I’m not participating, but it’s still fun to “meet” everyone. πŸ™‚ I’d most love to visit Hogwarts, too! Shoot, I’ll settle for the one at Universal Studios. πŸ˜›

It is fun. I like finding out more about everyone. I’ve been dying to get back to Universal. Looks like I’ll have at least 5 years before it’ll happen though. *cries*
