I’m so excited to bring you guys today, an interview with the author of Click to Subscribe, L.M. Augustine! I found this novel to be entirely adorable, if you haven’t already checked it out, it’s one I recommend. So here we go!
1. What was your inspiration behind Click to Subscribe?
Click was inspired after I watched one of John Green’s vlogs where he mentioned that two of his fans met online and hit it off so much that they were organizing a real life meetup. At the time, I thought that was so interesting. I mean, falling in love through social media? I didn’t even realized that happened.
Over time, the idea started to develop, and I kept thinking how plausible that could be. I wondered what those two people would have to be like to fall in love over the internet, wondered what happened to them and how all of it came to be. I’m not sure how the rest came about, but the next thing I knew it was midnight and I was scribbling away the first chapter of what would eventually become Click To Subscribe.
I love that! John Green does the best vlogs so what a super awesome place to look for inspiration!
2.Have you ever vlogged? What did/would you talk about?
I haven’t, actually! I would be epically awkward on camera and I’m sure my videos would be more technical difficulties than actual vlogging, so I guess that’s a good thing. If I made one, though, I’m almost certain it would be about how I wish I were the author equivalent of James Bond. Writing books AND saving the world? That’s pretty awesome. (Of course, this would never happen…)
3. West’s secret pseudonym is Sam Green, what would yours be?
L.M. Augustine is a pen name, so I guess that counts as my secret pseudonym. 🙂
4. Any future projects you can tell us about?
Well, right now I’m writing something much different than Click. I can’t give details as it’s still in its very beginning of development, but my hint is: creepy Ferris wheel.
I know, I’m mean. But that’s all I can say. Muahaha.
Ooooooooh! Me likey already!
5. If you had an ice cream eating contest with West and Cat, who would win?
I think I would put up a pretty good fight, actually, but Cat would end up beating me (and yes, I’d get a brain freeze really quick too.) I may be able to take on West, but Cat is too driven! Haha and plus, she’s the type of girl who would totally sabotage me if I were winning, so I have no hope there.I’d probably end up with major brain freeze. lol
6. Favorite Ice-cream?
Mint chip for sure!
7. Have you read any good books lately?
Yes! I really enjoyed Hopeless by Colleen Hoover, Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo, and One by LeighAnn Kopans.
All books I still need to read!
8. Can you write a haiku about Click to Subscribe?
West is in love.
He met her on the internet
Too bad she’s his BFF.
I would like to thank L.M. Augustine for stopping by and answering some questions for us today!
L.M. Augustine is a YA romance author who is obsessed with writing about dorky teenagers, love, and happy endings. He currently lives in New England, where he spends far too much time reading books and screaming at his computer, and he believes that the solution to the world’s problems can be found in chocolate cake. Click To Subscribe is his first novel, but it won’t be his last.
Blurb via Goodreads:
1,135,789. That’s how many subscribers sixteen-year-old West Ryder has on his web vlog series. But he only has eyes for one of them.
As one of the internet’s most prestigious video bloggers, West talks about high school relationships under the name “Sam Green.” As far as he knows, no one from school, not even his best friend, Cat, has seen his videos. But the highlight of the whole thing is Harper Knight, who comments every day at exactly 2:02 in the afternoon. He doesn’t know anything about her aside from the occasional deep philosophical messaging on why pizza tastes so delicious, but as stupid as it sounds, he might be falling for her. So when they finally agree to meet in real life, West’s hope for romance seems more and more in reach. But that all changes as soon as he arrives at their meeting spot and sees Cat walking toward him, wearing the same “I heart Sam Green” T-shirt Harper promised she’d have on.
To his alarm, West realizes he is falling in love with the best friend who has always been a sister to him.
