Heading to the Rochester Teen Book Festival!

May 16, 2013 Rochester Teen Book Festival 28

This Saturday, I’ll be heading to the 8th Annual Greater Rochester Teen Book Festival!

Seriously, that’s me. About a month after I started blogging last year, I was bumming because no author events or signings seem to happen in my little area of New York. But google was my friend that day because I came across a website for the Rochester Teen Book Festival and I literally flailed all over! Luckily, I had caught it about 3 weeks beforehand, so i didn’t miss it. I would have been a depressed mess otherwise. The best part, it’s annual! So I would have something to look forward to every year!

I’m not going to go into too many details right now because I’ll do all that next week in a recap. But basically there are around 30 authors and illustrators who attend, getting bigger each year, in my opinion. There are games, raffles, and a bookstore to purchase books by these authors too. Then the authors break off into groups, or even some go solo, and they discuss… well, anything really. The ones I went to last year talked about their books, their methods to writing, their life, etc. (You can find last year’s recap HERE and HERE). Then at the end, you can stand in lines for autographs!

The event runs from 8:45AM to 5PM. Last year I went by myself and got there late, so this time I’ll be going earlier, for almost the whole event. AND I may be dragging taking my mom along. Why? Well, I have A LOT of books to bring and authors to have sign them. I fear there won’t be enough time if I go at it alone. My mom will have fun, I know it. 🙂

So this is what I’m bringing:

So… yeah. Guess I should bring a suitcase to lug all of these around? And that’s just what I already have! I plan on buying a couple books there also, for me and for my Blogoversary winners.  The small stack on the right consists of ARCs. The plan is IF I have enough time, to get those signed for a future giveaway or two, but we’ll see!

I know you are probably trying to figure out the authors from the pic, so here’s the list of authors attending:

Gennifer Albin
Tom Angleberger
Charles Benoit
Coe Booth
Alexandra Bracken
Kate Brian
Jessica Brody
Susane Colsanti
Andrea Cremer
Matt de la Pena
Lauren DeStefano
Kevin Emerson
Andrew Fukuda
Margaret Peterson Haddix
Faith Erin Hicks
Ellen Hopkins
Amy Ignatow
Stacey Kade
Dan Krokos
Robin LaFevers
David Levithan
Lisa McMann
Marissa Meyer
Megan Miranda
Michael Morpurgo
Mary Pearson
Prudence Shen
Mark Shulman
Jennifer E. Smith
Laurie Faria Stolarz
Stephanie Kate Strohm
Terry Trueman
Sara Zarr

*Margaret Stohl was scheduled to come as well but had to decline last minute. She’s been added to the roster for 2014 though!

I honestly wish I had enough time and money to meet all of these authors and buy their books, but I have to pick and choose. I’m trying to figure out my schedule for the day, but I’m feeling sad I won’t get to see everyone. BUT, there is still the opening session where I believe they all get to talk, so I’ll be holding onto that.

I am terribly shy in person, so hopefully I can say more than ‘hi’ to the authors. That’s all I could muster last year. They’re celebrities in my eyes, so I’ll probably freeze up and turn bright red.  lol

If anyone else is in the area and plans on attending, let me know! I will be meeting Ashley @ Book Labyrinth there. 🙂

LUCKY! No one ever comes here or close to here. I live in Tucson, AZ…not exactly the most happening place. I did go to ALA last year in Anaheim but I was a newbie blogger and didn’t know anyone. I’m planning on going to ALA 2014 in Vegas *fingers crossed*
    Have fun!

Oh my gosh, this sounds totally amazing! What a fun festival. Don’t worry, we all get starstruck when meeting authors (at least I do). I think they’re probably flattered that they make us tongue tied (at least that’s what I tell myself :D). Hope you have a fun time!

That’s a lot of books to carry around, I think a rolling suitcase is a great idea! I totally understand what you mean about being shy, I’m the same exact way when meeting anyone famous. I hope you have an amazing trip =)

Hey Sara! It’s Jessica from Jessabella Reads. I’ve been a reader of your blog ever since I started my own last August. I will most definitely be attending this awesome event! I live in Rochester, and this is the first year I have even heard of it. How is that possible? Anyways…I am really looking forward to the festival and the amazing list of authors attending! I am also going to loose my BEA virginity this year(woohoooo!) I almost feel as if I am dreaming, and I will wake up and NOT be going to both of these fantabulous events! I really hope to see you at the Teen Book Fest, as I’ve yet to meet anyone from the blog-o-sphere in “real life”.

I get starstruck around authors, too. I was a little better at EdgeFest, but I had had a couple of beers already, lol. 🙂 Hope you have an amazing time and meet lots of awesome people. And don’t hurt yourself with all of those books! 😀 Can’t wait to see your recap!!!

I’M FLAILING AROUND AND I CAN’T EVEN GO I’M JUST SO EXCITED FOR YOU! My gosh those are some great authors and books. I’m seriously so jealous, I can’t even contain it. I am beyond excited to see your recap, have fun and smile your heart out at those authors for me! (but not like the cheshire cat, that’s creepy, Sara. Don’t be a creep. That’s why I didn’t say hug them…although that would be awesome. Okay, HUG ‘EM!)
