A Kid’s Perspective: Judging a Book By Its Cover (42)

July 19, 2013 Book Covers, Cover Art, Designs by Shawn, Judging a Book by its Cover, Katja Millay, The Sea of Tranquility 32

Inspired by an article on Babble called, Judging a Book by Its Cover: A 6-year-old Guesses What Classic Novels Are All About, I have asked my 6 year old what his thoughts are on a few Young Adult covers lying around the house. To take it a step further, I also had him make some cover art!

“I think The Sea of Tranquilt (that’s what he called it) is about somebody that didn’t see a bucket with a spoon in it so he was walking and kicked it over and white paint spilled all over the place. Someone walked into the paint and said, “I think this is milk on the sidewalk.””

Cover Art:

I was curious if he would notice the profiles on the cover and he didn’t. Very interesting, indeed! I was surprised he said paint and milk and didn’t think of ice cream with all this heat! This is why I love doing this, to see what he sees. πŸ™‚

I hope you enjoyed Shawn’s thoughts and artwork this week! Since a couple other blogs have expressed interest in doing something similar, I have decided to add a linky tool, so that you can also check out what they are doing as well! I hope you will give them a look see!

Don’t forget to let us know what you think! πŸ™‚

OMG! I never noticed that bucket and spoon and spilled white stuff this whole time! LMAO! He didn’t notice the people but I didn’t notice that so we are even! Sea of Tranquilt too cute!

Hehe…for the longest time, I ONLY noticed the profiles and not the ice cream. πŸ™‚ I love that he focused on the “bucket and spoon” in his drawing. Great job, Shawn!

I thought it was milk too when I first glanced at the picture. That’s really interesting that he didn’t spot the faces! This was a good cover to pick out, Sara πŸ˜€

Did you see that Katja shared this on FB because she loved it????:)
I thought it was milk until I noticed a spoon. I never even saw the faces.

Ooh, this is interesting! Funny though, that before read this post, I didn’t even realize that the white is an ice cream! I thought it was just a silhouette on a white background, like, ever since the first time πŸ˜€

Aww, that is so adorable! I just called my son in to see what he thought the book would be about and he said spilt milk & then saw the spoon & said ice-cream, he couldn’t see faces on the cover until I pointed them out; interesting πŸ˜‰

This is such a great, fun idea!

Another adorable description from Shawn! I love that he said paint and milk too! To Shawn’s credit I didn’t see the faces right away either. πŸ™‚ Awesome pic, and thanks for sharing another of these!
