The TBR Tag

October 9, 2014 TBR 6

I was tagged by Joy @ Joyous Reads. The TBR Tag originated from Dana Square and A Perfection Called Books who wanted to know all about the craziness that is the TBR list for book bloggers. And I find myself curious as well! I don’t know about anyone else, but my family likes to harp on me about the amount of books I have lying around the house. They continue to tell me I will never read all of these but I still maintain I have every intention to, I hope…

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

Goodreads of course! I’m not the most organized with it, but I use the site to keep track of all the current and upcoming titles that spark my interest. Right now there are 841 books listed on my TBR. I remember when I first joined Goodreads, about a year before I started blogging, I freaked out when I hit 100. Funny how quickly things change. lol A few months ago I went through and weeded out some I had lost interest in but I should probably go through it again.

Is your TBR mostly print or e-books

Print. I recently went through my TBR piles to reorganize on a couple new shelves and counted.

(These are all unread)

Physical copies (ARCs/Hardcover/Paperback) I have 176. I have 11 unread Nook books and 31 Kindle books. A grand total of 218 unread books. Yikes. I don’t know how that compares to others but it is A LOT to me.  Especially since I only read 70-90 books a year. So basically I cango without buying any new books for a few years to catch up, right? HA! Like that’s possible.

How do you determine which book to read next?

Well, it depends. I try to go in order of release if I have ARCs. If review books aren’t a factor it is just whatever I’m in the mood for. I tend to go through genre kicks, especially with contemporary fiction, where it is all I want to read for a few weeks and I can generally go through those books much more quickly than other genres. Sometimes I’ll just see a review or mention of a New Adult book and one-click buy it for my kindle because it is so cheap. Easy-peasy. Yeah well that doesn’t do very good for my TBR. lol

A book that has been on your TBR list the longest.

Hmmm. According to Goodreads that would be White Cat by Holly Black. I honestly don’t know if this is even a book I’d like anymore. Thoughts?

As for books I own, probably Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma is one of my oldest. I desperately want to read this but I know I have to be in the right mind frame for it. I also have had Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles #2) and Beautiful Chaos (Caster Chronicles #3) by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl sitting on my shelves a long time too. I enjoyed the first book but I was in sort of a slump when I read it and it took me a month to get through. I think that’s why I’ve put the rest of the books off. Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey is another. I’m intrigued but the hot and cold reviews have kept this one gathering dust on my shelf.

A book you’ve recently added to your TBR

Upcoming releases I recently added to my Goodreads TBR include Ruthless by Carolyn Lee Adams, Made: A Sempre Novel by J.M. Darhower, and All Fall Down by Ally Carter.

A Book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover

Sometimes I add books to my TBR just because the cover is pretty. And often I don’t even know what they are about. A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray, The Secrets We Keep by Trisha Leaver, and Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard and a few covers that immediately drew my attention. I hope they are good!

A book on your TBR that you never planned on reading

This is a tough one because I already weeded out my Goodreads a bit and when I put my shelves together I did the same, making a stack of 14 books I plan on giving away soon. The first book that pops in my head is The Selection by Kiera Cass. It was one of those books I added at first because of the beautiful cover. But honestly, it just doesn’t sound like my thing. I’ll never read it so I deleted it from my list. I’m sure there are MANY books I own I will never get to but I’m not ready to completely give up on them yet.

An unpublished book in your TBR that you’re excited about

I need The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord like I need air! Also The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West because I love all her books! GIMME GIMME! I hate wishing my life away but if it can hurry up and be 2015 that would be great. 🙂

A book that everyone’s read but you

Welp. A shit ton. Some examples that first come to mind – The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor. The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski. Oh and The Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle #2) by Maggie Stiefvater. I own all of these. *hangs head in shame*

Oh wait, I also have not read ANY Jennifer L. Armentrout books. Yes you read that correctly.

I also have a lot of friends really into Outlander right now, books and tv show. And I just… the books are long, okay? It would take me 6 months just to get through them. I can’t do it.

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you

Basically everything listed for the previous question.

A book on your TBR that you’re DYING to read

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins. I just haven’t had the time and it is killing me! But really, I waited this long, what’s another couple weeks?

The number of books on my Goodreads TBR shelf

I mentioned above but it is 841. It seems like so many to me but I’d guess it is probably on the lower side for a book blogger? Not sure. I need to check out everyone’s TBR post and see!

I had so much fun with this post, too! I would’ve tagged you, but I wasn’t sure if you’d be up for it since you’ve only just returned to blogging. 🙂 I think you’re actually doing really well compared to some other bloggers…especially me. My TBR is outta control! I really should clean up my GR TBR list, too. *sigh* But there are books to be read instead, lol.
