Eighteen-year-old Arcadia wants adventure. Living in a tiny Florida town with her dad and four-year-old brother, Cadie spends most of her time working, going to school, and taking care of her family. So when she meets two handsome cousins at a campfire party, she finally has a chance for fun. They invite her and friend to join them on a road trip, and it's just the risk she's been craving-the opportunity to escape. But what starts out as a fun, sexy journey quickly becomes dangerous when she discovers that one of them is not at all who he claims to be. One of them has deadly intentions.

A road trip fling turns terrifying in this contemporary story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

If you’re looking for a quick thriller, than The Devil You Know is the perfect read!

Arcadia has been forced to grow up too young. When her mother died, Arcadia had to basically take on that role in her household, becoming a mother figure to her little brother and also maintaining the house’s upkeep. But she is ready to break free and seek out that adventure she so craves. Or in this case, the adventure finds her in the form of two cousins she happens upon during a party.

I’ll start off by saying how brave and self-confident Arcadia was. She was strong in her independence as a woman and I loved that about her. Because this is a thriller, and I knew bad things were going to happen, I was instantly wary of both boys. Arcadia meets Matt first but really hits it off with his older cousin, Noah. They spend the weekend traveling around, camping and other such activities. The whole time I was a bundle of nerves, waiting for the other shoe to drop, just knowing I couldn’t trust these boys. I mean I couldn’t, could I? Both boys were risk-takers and fearless, craving the very adventure Arcadia was seeking herself. Noah and Matt were pretty much on the same page with me. Sweet at times. Pushy at times. I didn’t care for one over the other and it was hard to truly like them when I spent most of time being skeptical of every move they made. Ah, thrillers, right? TRUST NO ONE! But that’s all part of the fun!

The ending was pretty great. If you must know, I had a minor freak out with something at the end. Like the kind where I was hiding half my face behind my shirt like I was watching a horror movie or something. You know a story is good when you are doing that! The closing was perfect and this whole novel read like something I could envision in a movie or tv show. It’s a super fast and engaging read and I think thriller fans will enjoy this one!

About Trish Doller

I have been writing for as long as I can remember, but didn’t try to be a published author until more recently, something for which you should be thankful.

I was born in Germany, grew up in Ohio, and graduated with a degree in journalism from Ohio State University. Married someone really awesome and moved around with him a bit from Maine to Michigan and back to Ohio. I’ve worked as a radio personality and as a staff writer for my hometown newspaper. I also had a couple of kids along the way who have become two of the most interesting adults I’ve ever met.

These days I live, work, and sail in Florida with a relentlessly optimistic border collie and a pirate.
