Artist Beatrix Adams knows exactly how she's spending the summer before her senior year. Determined to follow in Leonardo da Vinci’s footsteps, she's ready to tackle the one thing that will give her an advantage in a museum-sponsored scholarship contest: drawing actual cadavers. But when she tries to sneak her way into the hospital’s Willed Body program and misses the last metro train home, she meets a boy who turns her summer plans upside down.

Jack is charming, wildly attractive . . . and possibly one of San Francisco’s most notorious graffiti artists. On midnight buses and city rooftops, Beatrix begins to see who Jack really is—and tries to uncover what he’s hiding that leaves him so wounded. But will these secrets come back to haunt him? Or will the skeletons in Beatrix’s own family’s closet tear them apart?

The Anatomical Shape of a Heart. A title that instantly made me want to know more. A story about a girl who likes to draw dead bodies? Oh, that’s different, must know more. Throw in a ‘bad boy’ graffiti artist and I knew I had to check this book out. What I did not expect was to fall so in love! Seriously amazing characters and a storyline that gripped me from start to finish. I can honestly say this is a favorite of 2015!

Our main character Beatrix, or Bex for short, is someone full of determination. She has this dream to be an artist, specifically working in the medical field with cadavers. She wants to win a scholarship so she can afford to go to college to pursue her dreams, even if she must lie to her mother to make this all possible. Sneaking out in the middle of the night, she meets a boy, Jack, and discovers he’s the elusive graffiti artist whose work she had seen in the city and on the news. They connect on secrets and become so much more.

I just fell so in love with both these characters, truly. Bex was sort of quirky yet sassy and, real. She was smart and I found her determination to accomplish her goals quite admirable. Jack was kind of adorable and oh so sweet. His persistence in all things, especially with Bex, made him charming and incredibly likable. I loved how much these two were able to open up to each other about their lives, dreams and fears in ways they couldn’t with others. They had an instant chemistry that built with each interaction. And every interaction had me hooked. The pace of the romance was spot on and everything I hoped it would be. And let me tell you, it was quite hot! The author didn’t stray from the characters having real sex conversations and I appreciated that as well. Probably one of the best YA romances I’ve read!

I seriously didn’t want this book to end. Every piece of the puzzle felt relevant and smart in the storytelling. I loved not only these main characters but the families and how they fit into the plot as well. It all came together in a perfect contemporary fiction package for me. This is one that is a must read for YA fans this fall! You will not be disappointed!

And then he kissed me. Slowly, softly. He tasted like he smelled, sunny and warm, but the sweetness lasted all of five seconds.
My hands snaked around his back, and he pulled me closer. And then he was kissing me like we were both on fire and he was trying to put the flames out, and I kissed him back like an arsonist with a pocketful of matches.
