In this new contemporary from YA star Kasie West, a girl who wins the lottery learns that money can cause more problems than it solves, especially when love comes into the picture.

Maddie doesn't believe in luck. She's all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment --

She wins!

In a flash, Maddie's life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she's talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun... until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now, Maddie isn't sure who she can trust.

Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn't seem aware of Maddie's big news. And, for some reason, she doesn't want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?

With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.

It’s no secret how adored Kasie West’s novels are by so many, including myself, and now she is back with another adorable contemporary fiction to add to my shelf of favorites!

Maddie is an extremely diligent student, dedicating her nights to extra study sessions with her two best friends. She is all about the future and not letting anything distract her from her college dreams. Feeling down on her 18th birthday after her friends are no shows to her birthday party, Maddie goes totally out of character and buys a lottery ticket on a whim and… wins! Her whole life is turned upside down as she navigates through the inevitable changes that money causes.

I felt a strong connection to Maddie. Not so much in the before, when she was all about facts and planning her future, but how flawed she became afterwards. Maddie is extremely good-hearted and genuinely nice, the type of character who feels a strong need to please everyone. So winning a large amount of money and being confronted with so many people she cared about needing things was hard on her. She made some bad decisions, yes, but her intentions were always good. It really shows you how money can change not only you, but the way people see you and treat you. Everyone was expecting something from her – friends, family, classmates she’d never spoken to before, the pizza delivery boy, and even the store clerk. It becomes hard for Maddie to trust anyone around her and their intentions. So yes, Maddie makes some bad decisions but those decisions help provide Maddie with a new knowledge of what is right and what is important to her as she learns and grows from her experiences. This is absolutely the kind of character I can get behind.

It’s impossible to write a review for this book and not mention Seth! He is absolutely one of my favorite boys written by Kasie West. Maddie and Seth work at the zoo together, which I loved! They had this great chemistry and were great listeners in a time when they both needed it. Seth was this form of normal in her chaotic and everchanging new life and she was desperate to keep their friendship that way, even if it meant holding off on sharing her new multimillionaire status news. I adored everything about their interactions, even when they were cleaning up filth at the zoo. Their zoo date was my favorite with carousel rides and movies on the zoo’s train. My only complaint with the romance is that I wanted more! More Seth and more togetherness!

I cannot even count the amount of times I’ve sat back and dreamed of all the things I would do if I won the lottery so of course experiencing it through Maddie really made me think of what I would do in her situation. This story sheds some light on the saying, ‘money doesn’t buy happiness’ and just how accurate it can be. Sure money can solve some problems but it also creates a whole set of new ones. And that is a journey we take in Lucky in Love for more than just Maddie’s character.

Another great novel by this author with so much to love – an adorable love interest, character growth, and a thought-provoking story that is fun to read! Definitely put this one on your summer reading list!

I like all of her books but especially liked The Distance Between Us! Thanks!

I found parts of my old self in Maddie. I used to be a pleaser, and it was Maddie’s need to please everyone that sort of got her in some sticky situations. And this book could have been even better, if it had more Zoo Seth in it. I have all the love in the world for West, and will read everything she writes. Great review.

Yes, same! Though I’m still a people pleaser but like to think I’ve gotten better with it. lol I absolutely plan to read all of Kasie West’s books, no matter what she writes!

AHHHH, I can’t wait to make time to read this one!
I can’t count how many times I dreamed about winning the lottery either, even though knowing it’s extremely unrealistic too. In case we both somehow win the lottery in the future – I know, one can wish – the first thing you should do – yes, even before telling anybody that you’ve won – is to get a financial advisor. I wonder if Kasie West bought that up!

I have very lengthy discussions with my mom and husband about all the things I’d do if I won. There’s a list. lol And yes, a financial advisor would have to be stop one, for sure! I hope you’ll enjoy reading it when you get a chance!!!

Aw I love Kasie West! As much as I would love to win the lottery, I can’t even imagine how many greedy people would try to come up to me asking for some. I’d feel bad saying no. I’m usually pretty good about saving up so I think I’d be pretty decent at keeping most of it in savings. I love that they work at the zoo, how cool! Will be adding this to my TBR!
