‘Waiting On’ Wednesday (115): Tess of the Road by Rachel Hartman

October 18, 2017 Waiting on Wednesday 13

**Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. **

Title: Tess of the Road
Author: Rachel Hartman
Publication Date: February 27th 2018
Publisher: Random House Books for Young Readers

Summary from Goodreads:

In the medieval kingdom of Goredd, women are expected to be ladies, men are their protectors, and dragons get to be whomever they want. Tess, stubbornly, is a troublemaker. You can’t make a scene at your sister’s wedding and break a relative’s nose with one punch (no matter how pompous he is) and not suffer the consequences. As her family plans to send her to a nunnery, Tess yanks on her boots and sets out on a journey across the Southlands, alone and pretending to be a boy.

Where Tess is headed is a mystery, even to her. So when she runs into an old friend, it’s a stroke of luck. This friend is a quigutl–a subspecies of dragon–who gives her both a purpose and protection on the road. But Tess is guarding a troubling secret. Her tumultuous past is a heavy burden to carry, and the memories she’s tried to forget threaten to expose her to the world in more ways than one.

Why I Can’t Wait: First, can we talk about that gorgeous cover?! That dragon and the color treatment that makes him look like a mountain is just… I love it. Anyways, I’m really into anything dragons and I recently read a really great novel featuring dragons that has me amped up for more books featuring these creatures in any way. Tess of the Road sounds like it is different than the usual dragon book and I’m all for it! I can’t wait to meet Tess and join her on her journey.

this sounds really good! I don’t typically read high fantasy novels but I think I might have to venture out for this one. Also, that cover really is stunning! I love when artists put landscapes and whatnot in the outline of other things. I’m sure there is a technical term for this but oh well haha. Great pick!

PS-I have been looking for months now for someone who is hosting a WoW type linkup. I’ll definitely feel more motivated to posting it weekly now that I have some other blogs to hop around to haha!

After my mostly absent two year hiatus I was sad to see the typical WOW was not really happening anymore and wasn’t sure what to do about it. I love WOW posts. It’s how I find a lot of new reads to add to my TBR so I was bummed. So I’m glad I saw someone else took over so I had to join!

OMG!!! That cover!! I LOVE it, and for the same reasons you do!! Plus, blue is my FAVORITE color!! (Although this is more of a greenish blue, lol.)

The plot is just incredibly GREAT! I ADORE the whole “girl rebels against society” thing. And here, the female protagonist partners with a dragon! (Of course, I LOVE dragons, too!)

Thanks for sharing this totally AWESOME pick, Sara! I’m adding it to my GR shelves! And thanks for commenting on my CWW post!! <3 <3 🙂 🙂
