Best Books I've Read in 2013

December 23, 2013 Best of 2013 32

For the next few days, I will be giving you all my Top 10 lists for 2013! Today's list are favorite books I’ve read this year, whether they were published in 2013 or not. It was really hard to narrow this list down because I read some amazing books this year but here is my attempt! (In no particular order)

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

So worth all the hype surrounding it!  The plot was awesome, the characters were awesome and the action was awesome! So glad this one lived up to all my expectations, especially when it was a little out of my comfort zone (aliens). MY REVIEW

Pivot Point by Kasie West

Parallel lives was a major hit for me this year and Pivot Point was a huge reason for that. I loved how the different parts of the story played out in alternating chapters but also how they all came together and overlapped. So cool! Kasie West was probably my new favorite author for the year and I can't wait for more from her! MY REVIEW

The Program by Suzanne Young

Another outstanding novel by Suzanne Young! If the concept wasn't interesting and heartbreaking enough, I fell so in love with Sloane and James and their relationship. I adore how this author writes romance. MY REVIEW

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

I almost didn't read this book and what a travesty that would have been. Maggie Stiefvater's writing seems to get better and better with each book. After loving The Raven Boys I decided this was definitely something to check out and with a little push from my YA Book Club, I ended up loving everything about it! MY REVIEW

Sempre: Redemption (Forever #2) by J.M. Darhower

A fantastic conclusion! I laughed, swooned and cried my way through this novel. It was everything I was hoping for and more! I have my fingers crossed for a Corrado prequel! MY REVIEW

extinguish cover

Extinguish by J.M. Darhower

Yep, another novel by the lovely J.M. Darhower! I am such a fan of everything she writes and this little paranormal gem was sexy and exciting! I mean, Lucifer is a main character! And I love the angel sub-genre. This was basically everything I could ask for in an adult read. Can't wait for more from this author! MY REVIEW

The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay

I don't even know how to put in words how amazing this book is! I must say, it has probably the best ending I have ever read. Even thinking about it is giving me major FEELS right now! Definitely something I would recommend to ALL! MY REVIEW

Belladonna (Secrets of the Eternal Rose #2) by Fiona Paul

Another author and series I adore! She certainly amped up the love triangle in this one! The writing is just breathtaking, making you feel like you are back in time in the beautiful Venice and Florence right along with the characters. And she added a few elements in this sequel that surprised me, in a good way! MY REVIEW

Amazing Sequels and Series read in 2013

Prodigy and Champion (Legend Series #2 & 3) by Marie Lu

When I read Prodigy early in the year, I was super impressed with how good of a sequel it was. It answered more questions, created more drama and ended in a way that left me absolutely dying to get my hands on the final book. Thank goodness the final book was less than a year away or I might have combusted! I was terrified of how the series might end. I hadn't had very good luch with series finales, especially in the dystopian genre, but Marie Lu ended it with perfection! The Legend series will now remain one of my all-time favorites! I cannot recommend this series enough! Fantastic from start to finish. (PRODIGY REVIEW | CHAMPION REVIEW)

Dare You To and Crash Into You (Pushing the Limits #2 & 3) by Katie McGarry

I loved Pushing the Limits but it was these next two installments that really solidified these books and characters for me! In Dare You To I grew to love Beth and her snarky self even more than I thought I could. And my heart broke for Isaiah until he got his very own story in Crash Into You! I think of all the characters, he remains my favorite. Plus it's always nice to see the characters crossover from each book. Perfect reads for something with some angst and romance! (DARE YOU TO REVIEW | CRASH INTO YOU REVIEW)

siege and storm

Shadow and Bone and Siege and Storm (The Grisha #1 & 2) by Leigh Bardugo

I cannot believe I waited until this year to start this series. I wasn't initially sure it would be something I would enjoy but I fell so in love with the world building and these amazing characters! And so many amazing characters at that. The Darkling is uber creepy and fantastic and how can you resist Sturmhond? (You can't) And of course Mal! I am dying to get my hands on the finale and see how it all comes together! (SHADOW AND BONE REVIEW | SIEGE AND STORM REVIEW)

I could go on and on with fabulous reads in 2013 but for now I will leave you with this list. What were some of your favorite reads this year?

The 5th Wave made it to my list of faves as well! I agree that it deserves the hype. 🙂 S & B and S & S were both fantastic! Although I admit to liking S & S a tiny bit more. Dying to get my hands on the 3rd and final book now!

I actually haven’t read any of these books on your list. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?! They all look so awesome. Okay I’m gonna go read now so I can join the cool croud ;P

So many of those trilogies I’ve read the first but not last two books! So many books….I had a lot of fun with The 5th Wave. It was fast-paced and tension-filled the whole time. It read like a movie to me. The Scorpio Races was incredible, also such a visual book. I need to read her other series.

Awesome Picks!!! I think I’m the only one in the history of books lovin that didn’t LOVE The 5th! I liked it, but by far didn’t love it!! I’m starting to think I was having an off day when I read it, because pretty much everyone has loved it, except me!

I loved Shadow and Bone and The Legend series. I just read Legend the other day, and LOVED it, and I can’t WAIT to read Prodigy soon!

I like that you have such a wide variety of genres here. It’s so different across the board. Obviously you know my love for TSoT, but you need to read Sex & Violence by Carrie Mesrobian. Fantastic boy voice in a contemp YA.

  10. Richa

I agree with so many of these! The Grisha books are amazing and I wish they could’ve made my list too. Same with The 5th Wave. Some of these books are very high on my TBR, and I can’t wait to read it.
Awesome picks! Thanks for stopping by my list 🙂
